Sidewalk Construction Project along Loop Road Begins This Week

August 20, 2013

An infrastructure, indirect-funded project to construct new concrete sidewalks and curbs along the north side of Loop Road, behind the south side of Cooling Tower 101 and Buildings 44, 40 and 84, is set to start this week. Once completed the sidewalk project will provide safe pathways along this section of the campus road.

Construction will start with demolition of existing decomposed asphalt and gravel sidewalks, followed by installation of formwork and concrete. Altogether the project will build about 780 lineal feet of sidewalk, in order to provide a safe and convenient path for pedestrian traffic.

Please note that traffic will be impacted during construction, but both lanes should remain open. Several parking spaces in various lots will be used for debris dumpsters and the construction subcontractor. Signs will be posted to inform SLAC staff. Please drive with caution through the construction area, and follow all signage and instructions of personnel directing traffic.

The Marguerite shuttle stop behind Buildings 40 and 84 will be closed for the duration of construction. The staircase and elevated walkway above the utilities tunnel across from Building 52 will also be closed. Barricades and signage will be used to provide alternate, safe pedestrian paths. Please abide by these controls, pay attention to your surroundings and use caution around these areas. Do not cross any construction barricades.

If you have questions about the project, please contact project manager Jo Beth Folger at ext. 3418.
